As for the airforce, we did have a guy that had to stand in the formation area for a day and point out anything that flew by and yell "DE PLANE, DE PLANE, DE PLANE!" cause he lost a laser (Peq-4 or some such?) on FTX.

I think mine was Delta co. 2/19 INF, would have been 2000? I need to dig up my box of the past. I remember pretty distinctly the DIs saying shit had REALLY changed in the previous years, Something about a soccer like card system where if you were getting shark attacked you could pull out a card and they would have to leave you alone? 😂 It feels impossible that could have ever been a thing, but given some of the shit that went down during my cycle and part of the motivation for me bugging out is some of that fuckery.

Like one of the things I def remember was training in MOP(?) level 4 and them being like "Men, if you need to be wearing all this in combat, it is very likely you will already be dead." but even knowing that might be the case, we still had to do the dance when we heard "GASGASGAS!". :D

In truth if you are in MOPP4 and not in enormous concentration of Chem it should work.

The French solved this problem in 1991 by having Mitterrand say publicly that France has an Independent nuclear alternative and if Saddam used Chemical the French would use nuclear.
So the French went round comfortable while we became Chimney sweeps, because Activated Charcoal gets all on everything with dust.
Even then our strategic leadership was worthless, but we had so much proficiency and tactical excellence that it didn’t matter.
I just remember drowning in my own sweat and ball funk, and that was at Benning in the fall, shudder to think what that would be like in a desert set up. Like fucking Dune suits, but the piss is unfiltered with a side of fumunda. :D I also think my effective engagement range with a gasmask on was about 5 feet give or take, so eating the gun may have been pro-strats when things got spicy.
